Welcome Back! September 2016
We have been working hard to be ready for all our students: those that want to return and those that still want more summer vacation. We have some new staff, new curriculum and bright flowers in front of the school to welcome you.
We’d like to introduce you to some of our new staff: Ms. Simoni will be in Room 402 teaching our 7th graders and Mr. Molyneaux will be in Room 301 teaching a 4th 5th combo this year. Both are very energetic and amazing. We feel very fortunate to add them to our wonderful staff this year. We would also like to welcome Mrs. Dobbins. She is our new school counselor and you can find her in Room 109 when she is not in the classrooms, on the playground or walking around campus meeting our students and their families. In addition, we welcome Ms. Hensley and Ms. Manfredonia as paraprofessionals in Ms. Grosby and Ms. Simoni’s classrooms.
This year our K-6 teachers will be piloting a new Language Arts Curriculum, Reach for Reading by National Geographic, that is Common Core aligned. We are piloting to determine if this curriculum is indeed what is best for our students prior to purchasing the materials. We have also added a new curriculum, Second Step K-8, to help our students learn important social/emotional skills such as empathy, self-regulation and conflict resolution.
Please review the Student Handbook that will be coming home with your child and review the expectations and rules with them: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.
A few dates to remember: School Closed on Labor Day, Monday September 5; Back to School Night is Thursday, September 8 at 6:30pm; Picture Day, Monday September 19; Early Release Professional Development Day, Monday, September 26 at 12 noon.
We look forward to seeing our returning families and meeting new ones. Please don’t hesitate to stop in the office to say hi and introduce yourself if you are new to our district or to just reacquaint yourself with our administration and office staff.
Looking forward to a stellar year,
Jorey C. McComas Leslie Yale
